OUR STORY.
The KPD Honey Bee Project in Sabah started in 1991 through Contract Farming with local farmers. It began as research in Kota Marudu in 1980, supported by Canadian bee expert Scott Fairbairn. Two KPD officers trained in beekeeping at Universiti Pertanian Malaysia in 1984, and another Canadian expert, Dale Hooge, assisted from 1985 to 1988.
Due to the success of honey production, the project expanded to areas like Sipitang, Ranau, and Telupid. KPD set up the Borneo Honey Bee Centre in Sikuati, Kudat, to process and bottle honey. The factory uses modern equipment like a vacuum dryer to improve quality and serves as a training center for beekeeping. The honey is marketed through the KPD Teluk Likas Complex.
